Fujiwara no Sanemune (藤原実宗)
FUJIWARA no Sanemune (1145-January 28, 1214) was Kugyo (court noble) who lived from the late Heian period to the early Kamakura period. He was the third generation of the Saionji family. He was the first son of Dainagon (a chief councilor of state) FUJIWARA no Kinmichi. He served eight generations from Emperor Konoe (the 76th) to Emperor Tsuchimikado (the 83rd) during the unquiet days, and was promoted to Shonii (Senior Second Rank) Naidaijin (a minister). He called himself Bojo, Omiya, and Gojo.
Career
He conferred a peerage in 1148. After experience as jiju (chamberlain), Ukone no shosho (minor captain of the Right Division of Inner Palace Guards), Bingo no suke (assistant governor of Bingo Province), Iyo no Gon no Suke (provincial vice governor of Iyo Province), Sanuki no suke (deputy governor of the Province of Sanuki) and other positions, he became Kurodo no to (head chamberlain) in 1170. He became Sangi (councilor) and was raised to Kugyo in 1176. After experience as Bizen gon no kami (provincial governor of Bizen Province) and Gon Chunagon (provisional vice-councilor of state), he became Gon Dainagon (provisional chief councilor of state) in 1189. Also, he became Dainagon (chief councilor of state) in 1191. Though he served as Daijosai Kengyo in accession (to the throne) of the Emperor Tsuchimikado in 1198 and was appointed to Naidaijin in 1205, he resigned on April 29, 1206 and entered the priesthood on January 4, 1207.
